Earlier today Eidos Montreal announced that production has begun on a new Deus Ex game. The game will be coming to Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
This comes as part of the larger announcement from Eidos Montreal studio head David Anfossi of their pursuit of Deus Ex Universe, “a commitment on our part to deliver meaningful content that expands the franchise on a regular basis and to deliver a deep conspiracy that will span several connected Deus Ex games”. Said stories will be spread across all manner of platforms and media, including console games, tablets, smartphones, books and graphic novels.
Included with the press release was a piece of concept art from the announced game that exhibits the “trans-humanism segregation” backdrop. “It represents a “ghetto-city’ voluntarily built in order to separate the classes. The people in this segregated class have reshaped their environment, nostalgic for their ideal of Cyber Renaissance. This dark and dystopian vision sets the tone for things to come in Deus Ex.”
There has been no mention of a target date at this point, and Anfossi warns “it’s early so don’t expect to hear much more from us just yet”.
The announcement came alongside the confirmation of the release date Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Director’s Cut (Oct 22 NTSC / Oct 25 PAL), an expanded version of the 2011 release with other related Deus Ex media and support for SmartGlass, PSVita and Wii U Gamepad.
Eidos Montreal is currently in production on the Thief reboot coming in 2014 to current and next-gen consoles.
